Dog Collars – Choosing the right collar and fit

10 08th, 2007 Author: SnootyPaws

Choosing the right dog collar doesn’t need to be a hassle. Here are a few simple tips to getting it right the first time:

Firstly consider the size of your dog. A big dog can easily break a small thin collar or leash so it’s better to choose something that is tougher on larger dogs. On the other hand a smaller dog will be weighed down by a heavy collar or leash.

Once you’ve chosen the right type of collar for your dog, you need to ensure that it is the right size so that it will fit properly. Choose a collar which is easily adjustable. Use a tape measure around your pets neck and then add an inch or two. When you’re putting the collar on your dog you should be able to fit two fingers between your dogs neck and the collar. If it is any looser than this your dog could easily escape out of their collar.

It’s also a good idea to regularly check around your dogs neck to make sure there is no irritation or redness. Also check on the collar size regularly for growing puppies.

Finally it’s highly recommended that you add a name tag to your dogs collar with your contact number.

If you’re looking for a range of collars then check out the range at Snooty Paws.
